All throughout the bible there are revelations of liberation and divine freedom hidden in plain site revealing the power and intent of God through one word or just a short line.
As I continue to spend time with God in meditation and prayer around his universal desire and origin intent for all man kind to be free of the condemnations, shame, guilt, and oppression of man’s created reality, I continue to discover more and more of these direct shortly worded revelations.
Today’s word of edification and inspiration comes from one of these scriptures.
Genesis 2:25 – And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
This scripture culminates the accounting of God’s creation of woman. As such most often this scripture is read as referencing the nakedness of their bodies. This is particularly true as we reflect on the related outcome of Adam and Eve eating of the tree of knowledge of good and evil and becoming in fear and hiding themselves from the voice of God.
Genesis 3:10 – And he said, I heard thy voice in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.
As I began to reflect on this scripture from the lens of God as the father of spirits and the spirit of Truth. The holy spirit began to expand my awareness of this reference of nakedness.
Yes, the definition of naked includes (of a person or part of the body) without clothes. It also includes:
- Being without covering or protection
- Exposed
- Unprotected
- Vulnerable
- As well as (of a tree, plant, or animal) without leaves, hairs, scales, shell, etc)
As I continue to mediate on where God is calling his children, his families, his people, his nations at this time in our lived experience; the origin legacy of the fear, shame, and self-doubt many of us still carry in our relationship with God and identities as children of God became clearer and clearer.
Adam and Eve did not hide themselves from God solely because their bodies were not clothed, as they had no knowledge of clothing or using the skins of animals to make covering.
They hid because of the acceptance of the new lens of themselves as being unprotected, exposed and vulnerable to harm.
They no longer saw themselves as being created by God’s hands, of God, and therefore an extension of God and began to see themselves as less than, inferior and shamed.
When I reflect on the meaning of naked that includes (of a tree, plant, or animal) without leaves, hairs, scales, shell, etc)
I began to see the possible origins of self-doubt manifested out of false comparison. For “if the trees of the garden were clothed with leaves, and the cattle with hairs and even the serpent with scales, and God created them, then what must be wrong with us that we are uncovered and exposed”.
Add to this the awareness of their disobedience and Adam and Eve had opened a door and stepped out of the pre-existing glory of Gods covering, protection, love and grace and replanted themselves in a new place of fear, shame, self-doubt, and unbelief that they were ever God’s intentional handwork and free.
As God is calling his children back into origin covenant and relationship with him, he is particularly inviting us to return to a “naked and unashamed” existence in him.
Prior to Adam and Eve’s transition from a heavenly state of being into a flesh mindset, they had no reason to be fearful or shamed. God had placed and supplied them with complete dominion and authority over everything and given Adam the responsibility to dress and keep all that was made.
Therefore, to be “naked and unashamed” is to be living in the knowledge and confidence that we are God’s. Made by God. Placed by God. Positioned by God, with dominion and authority over all that God has given us to dress and keep.
John 3:17 – For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
The door back into the “naked and unashamed” pre-existing glory of God was opened through the sacrifice of Jesus Christ and has continued to remain open through the faith of ever prophet, believer and son and daughter of God that has followed.
It is in moments when the world is most full of fear, anxiety, and uncertainty that God echoes the call for his children to be “naked and unashamed” in him. This is not the hour to hide your light under a bushel. Or dawn the mask of acceptability, uncertainty, and fear.
It is now when God is calling us to stand in our light, proclaim or identities as children of God and declare our covering and protection.
For to hid in the shadows is to deny God and denounce our birthright as a child of God, holder of light and heir to the promises of salvation.
This is not a step into the light Carole Ann moment in time. For you are the light and therefore should not be afraid to shine.
Let go of the shame and fear of what bodies, mouths and bots might say. You hold the light they need to make it into another day.
Declare today;
“I am naked and unashamed to be a child of God in this world and shall create peace just as I am”.
